Hi, This is Tushar. Today I am going to talk about The New SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19, our so-called Coronavirus. This virus started in Wuhan, China. As of today, globally around 206000 cases have been reported with over 8800 dead. Its symptoms are very similar to the common cold, thus making it nearly indistinguishable from the common cold.
What Is COVID -19
COVID-19 is provoked by Coronavirus and is labeled as “new” because it is a new mutation of an old virus, which has much in common with the one that caused SARS: in fact, its technical name is SARS-CoV-2. Its main issue is that it causes pneumonia, which is something that many of us have had in our life.
But now, it is happening to all of us at once. The main issue with this virus is not its mortality but infectiousness that makes it nearly impossible for us to contain it.
Right now, W.H.O has declared a public health emergency in response to this virus and many countries have canceled flight and are checking over persons who recently came back from their country.
More, the virus causing COVID-19 is extremely virulent. That means that it is easy to transmit from one person to another, and the most recent data show that you could be positive to COVID-19 and still show no adverse effects for some days. It is suggested in reports that a single infected person not showing any symptoms can infect over two to three person .
Symptoms Of COVID-19
They are very similar to the common cold, or hay fever. But the key differences include :
At the starting of the infection / or symptoms, it can give you a slight fever of about 37.5°C / 99.5°F.
It does not usually give you a runny nose like the common cold but rather a dry one.
It gives dry cough when it starts infecting your lungs that lead to shortness of breathing ( unable to breathe properly ).
*Disclaimer*
Remember , these are the most common symptoms and having these doesn't not really mean that you definitely have corona virus . This also does not mean that it will give every patient these symptoms . These may vary from patient to patient .
What to do to protect Yourself
Wash your hands frequently: Regularly and thoroughly cleaning your hands with alcohol-based hand rub can kill the virus that may be present on your hands.
Maintain Social Distancing: It's one of the most important rules. Avoid contact and maintain a distance of about 3ft. from the person who is coughing or sneezing.
Avoid touching your facial parts: Hands touch many surfaces and can thus pick up the virus . So avoid touching your face so as to prevent the virus from entering your body.
Follow respiratory Hygiene: Make sure you and people around you follow good respiratory hygiene i.e covering your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
If you have these symptoms, seek medical care early: Symptoms include fever, cold and difficult breathing. It is not important if you have these symptoms to have novel coronavirus, but it is for preventing further infection and if you have then received the right healthcare from respective facilities.
Stay informed on a daily basis about coronavirus.
